Prepublication Platforms
It will become increasingly common for researchers in most disciplines to deposit their preprints on dedicated platforms. This practice enables researchers to disseminate their ideas before the actual article is published in a peer-reviewed journal and also to initiate very open scientific discussion about a preprint’s content which can help improve its quality.
The number of these platforms is currently growing exponentially but many of them have a short lifespan or only host a very small number of preprints. And yet researchers are without the tools – other than knowledge of their community’s practices – to help them choose a platform to deposit their preprints according to the platform’s technical characteristics and more ethical criteria linked to open science.
