Following the success of the ‘Reproducible research: methodological principles for transparent science‘ MOOC, the National Institute for Research in Digital Science and Technology (Inria) has published a new course entitled ‘Reproducible research II: Practices and tools for managing computations and data‘ that deals with the more specific issue of massive data and the complex computations associated with this. These two intentionally complementary MOOCs form a coherent training programme on the subject and received the support of the National Fund for Open Science.

The new MOOC is made up of numerous practical sessions using cutting-edge open source tools to present the subject’s general concepts and how these can be transposed into the right solutions.

It also teaches learners how to use formats like JSON, FITS and HDF5, platforms like Zenodo and Software Heritage and tools like git-annex, docker, singularity, guix, make and Snakemake along with the presentation of a real-life usage case.

The MOOC is made up of three modules – data management, software management and calculation management – combining video lectures, practical sessions, text-based course materials and many exercises designed to give practical experience of the tools and methods presented in the course. It is only available in English.
