Open Science Research Data Awards

The Open Science Research Data Award spotlights best practices in structuring, describing, interoperability, disseminating and enhancing the visibility and reuse of research data.

The awards are part of the Second National Plan for Open Science and are given by Minister for Higher Education, Research and Innovation. There are several categories:

  • The ‘data reuse’ award is specifically aimed at young researchers working on research projects who use data that is already available and in turn make the data they produce reusable, etc.
  • The ‘creating the right conditions for reuse’ award is for research teams whose research data management work is considered exemplary and involves: the application of the FAIR principles right from the data acquisition phase and throughout the data’s full life cycle, using an activatable data management plan, creating “reference datasets” and enhancing the visibility of data.

The ‘jury’s special prize’ is very open in nature and can be awarded to individual applications and to teams. It rewards ideas and projects that are exemplary in terms of opening or sharing data.
